Wendouree West Community Hub & Sporting Pavilion

The City of Ballarat, with the aid of the Sport & Recreation Victoria (SRV) funding, has been given the opportunity to upgrade the Community Hub & Sporting Pavilion, along with the Men’s Shed and ReCranked Youth Shed at Ballarat’s Wendouree West Recreation Reserve. This project embraces the potential to maximise inclusivity and accessibility to all user groups, while creating a vibrant and active destination for community recreation and local sports clubs alike.

Key council requirements outlined in the project brief include the incorporation of universal design strategies for accessibility and compliance. They also include the design and build of inclusive, gender-neutral facilities to prioritise the growth and diversity of local club participation. The introduction of passive surveillance strategies ensures a balance between creating a welcoming precinct and a secure one. This also contributes to the holistic urban design strategy for the precinct, by reinforcing visual and physical connections that exist on site.

Not only does this project have the ability to cater to future development and event programming, but it also has the opportunity to nurture and support a community that deserves a facility they can call their own.
