WA Norman Reserve

City Collective was engaged to lead the pre-planning concept design for the redevelopment of WA Norman Reserve, a key opportunity to redefine baseball infrastructure in southern Adelaide and enhance the site as a shared community asset. Working closely with the City of Mitcham and local stakeholders, our design vision focused on inclusivity, flexibility, and long-term sustainability. The proposed new multi-use facility supports growing participation in baseball, particularly among women, and integrates with the existing reserve landscape to provide improved spectator areas, car parking, and enhanced public open space, including upgrades to the adjoining dog park.

A major challenge was balancing site constraints, including significant vegetation, limited access, and the need for staged construction, while delivering a future-proofed facility.

Our design response proposes a compact double-storey building that separates public and player areas, maximises views over the field, and allows for continued operation during construction. Design innovations include gender-inclusive changerooms, a green roof for water capture and reuse, solar-ready roof forms, and a large viewing deck that provides shade and comfort. The result is a low-impact, highly functional civic asset that supports both the game and the wider community.
