Project Introduction
City Collective collaborated with the City of Salisbury to lead the redevelopment of the Salisbury Recreation Precinct into a state-of-the-art aquatic and community hub. The vision for the project centered on creating a vibrant, inclusive facility that would address the recreational needs of the rapidly growing community. The master plan includes new aquatic facilities, enhanced community spaces, and an integrated design approach that ties the precinct to its natural and urban surroundings.
Key Project Challenges
The project faced several challenges, including the site’s hidden location, which limited visibility and access, as well as existing infrastructure constraints, such as outdated swimming pool facilities and the proximity of significant vegetation and the Dry Creek corridor. Balancing the needs of various user groups, from competitive swimmers to families, while maintaining environmental sensitivity, added complexity to the planning process.
Key Project Innovations
City Collective’s innovative design approach addressed these challenges with a series of impactful strategies. Key features include a centrally located aquatic pavilion that connects various amenities, improved wayfinding and access to surrounding streets, and sustainable design elements such as stormwater management and solar energy systems. The design prioritises user experience with facilities like water play areas, leisure pools, and shaded community gathering spaces, ensuring the precinct serves as a benchmark for integrated recreational design.
