Project Introduction
City Collective has been working with the Melbourne Football Club over the past 3 years to develop a facilities return brief and explore site options for the facility. While a final home for the Club continues to be secured we have worked closely with the team to refurbish their facilities at Casey to provide player, coaches and all staff upgraded amentities within the Administration and Football Development building. Currently under construction is the new Aquatic Recovery Facility.
Key Project Challenges
With the Club’s operations spread across multiple locations, the challenge was to create a unified design language across all facilities. The goal was to establish a consistent design palette and high-quality finish at both the MCG and Casey Fields, creating a sense of familiarity and cohesion across sites.
Key Project Innovations
The design of the boardroom at the MCG draws inspiration from the Club’s rich heritage, embedding storytelling elements to reinforce identity and pride. At Casey Fields, the Aquatic Recovery Facility was carefully integrated into the existing training infrastructure—oval, gym, indoor training, and physio spaces—ensuring optimal functionality and player flow. Sustainability principles, such as energy-efficient systems and use of recycled materials, have been incorporated to support long-term environmental goals. These approaches are now informing the broader planning and design strategy at Caulfield Racecourse, including engagement insights to be shared with future stakeholders such as the Tasmanian Devils AFL team.
