Project Introduction
The new expanded, revitalised home for the South Adelaide Basketball Club will be a destination for basketball in the ‘South’: capturing the desires of the current community who use the existing Marion Stadium, and attracting a growing member base. The new Stadium will build on the legacy of its past success, establish new community relationships and guide ongoing respected reputation.
Key Project Challenges
Working within the tight constraints of the existing site has created opportunities for elevation to be introduced to the site. With a precinct that already has multiple users and built form including areas of carparking that are at capacity at peak use times, the challenge for the expasion of additional courts across the site was to aim to not displace any other current function.
Key Project Innovations
By elevating the courts footprint this allowed other supporting functions including carparking, allied health, public amenity and administration facilities to be accommodated at ground level. This also allowed the courts to be constructed in a staged approach and open up view lines, access pathways and additional carparking opportunities across the site.
