City Collective

Project Introduction

City Collective partnered with the Adelaide Giants to design and master plan a state-of-the-art baseball venue and sports academy in South Australia. This ambitious project aimed to elevate baseball’s visibility and accessibility while creating a multi-use facility that caters to both professional athletes and community users. The venue was envisioned to host local, national, and international events, positioning South Australia as a hub for baseball and sports tourism.

Key Project Challenges

The project faced several challenges, including identifying a site that could accommodate the facility’s requirements while maintaining connectivity to Adelaide’s urban core. Balancing the need for high-performance amenities with public accessibility and community integration was crucial. Planning and zoning constraints in certain proposed locations, as well as the need to secure significant funding and stakeholder buy-in, added layers of complexity. Additionally, the design needed to account for future scalability and ensure compliance with international baseball standards.

Key Project Innovations

City Collective introduced a forward-thinking master plan that integrated a 3,250-seat spectator bowl, high-performance training facilities, and multi-use community spaces. The design emphasised modularity, allowing for temporary grandstands and adaptable facilities for events beyond baseball, such as concerts and cultural festivals. The inclusion of shared recreational areas, such as playgrounds and multi-sport courts, ensured community engagement. The project also explored sustainable features, such as water-sensitive landscaping and energy-efficient lighting, to align with broader environmental goals and enhance the precinct’s long-term value.
