Project Introduction
City Collective collaborated with the St Kilda Football Club to develop the Danny Frawley Centre for Health and Wellbeing, located at RSEA Park in Moorabbin. This state-of-the-art facility was established to honor the legacy of Danny Frawley, a club legend and mental health advocate, by providing comprehensive mental and physical health services to both the club and the wider community. The center includes amenities such as a 25-metre lap pool, hydrotherapy pool, community gym, yoga and Pilates studios, and dedicated mental health consulting suites, all designed to support holistic health and wellbeing.
Key Project Challenges
The project encountered several challenges, including the need to integrate a diverse range of facilities within the existing infrastructure of RSEA Park. Balancing the requirements of elite athletes with those of the general public necessitated a design that could accommodate varying needs while promoting inclusivity. Additionally, ensuring the center honored Danny Frawley’s legacy and effectively addressed mental health awareness required a thoughtful and sensitive approach to both design and program development.
Key Project Innovations
City Collective implemented several innovative solutions to address these challenges. The design seamlessly integrates physical and mental health facilities, creating a cohesive environment that encourages holistic wellbeing. Flexible spaces were incorporated to accommodate a variety of programs and user groups, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. The center also emphasises natural light and open spaces to create a welcoming atmosphere, and incorporates sustainable design principles to enhance energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
