Project Introduction
City Collective partnered with the City of Prospect to reimagine the Broadview Oval, transforming it into the Broadview Sports and Community Hub, also known as Yarnta Tutu Yarta. This project sought to modernize outdated facilities, enhance accessibility, and create a unifying space for the diverse community of Broadview. The hub integrates amenities for sports clubs, fitness enthusiasts, and local residents while serving as a regional park for the greater metropolitan area. City Collective’s design aimed to elevate the site’s functionality while honoring its rich urban and natural identity.
Key Project Challenges
The project faced several challenges. The existing facilities were inadequate to support the growing needs of sports clubs and the broader community. Additionally, the site’s fragmented layout and lack of connectivity between amenities limited its usability. Preserving a significant Lemon Scented Gum tree at the entrance, addressing feedback from the Community Reference Group, and meeting budget constraints were critical considerations. Balancing these needs while maintaining sensitivity to the surrounding residential context posed unique design complexities.
Key Project Innovations
City Collective introduced several innovative solutions to address these challenges. The design featured bold horizontal lines to create a sensitive transition between the built form and its residential surroundings. Contextual brick tones and natural hues were used to blend the facility with the landscape, creating harmony between the structure and its environment. A flexible community event space on the first floor provides uninterrupted vistas of the sports and recreation precinct, fostering social connection. The preserved Lemon Scented Gum serves as a defining entrance landmark, further integrating the facility with its natural surroundings.
