City Collective

Project Introduction

City Collective was engaged to deliver the design and development of the Sandringham Golf Links Training Facility, part of the Australian Golf Centre in Victoria. Partnering with Golf Australia, Golf Victoria, and PGA Australia, the project aimed to create a world-class high-performance training facility that seamlessly integrates with the existing Sandringham Golf Links. City Collective’s focus was on achieving a functional, elegant design that elevates the site into a premier hub for golf, high-performance sports training, and community recreation.

Key Project Challenges

The project faced key challenges, including minimising disruption to the existing site while integrating the facility into a sensitive natural landscape. The retention of significant trees and the need to align with local environmental standards added complexity to the design process. Furthermore, balancing the dual objectives of creating an elite training facility and ensuring broad community access required careful spatial planning. The need to accommodate high-performance spaces, such as training labs, lecture areas, and putting labs, within a compact footprint demanded innovative solutions.

Key Project Innovations

City Collective’s design incorporated several innovative strategies, including a 360-degree building orientation that maximizes views and provides multiple entry points to seamlessly engage with the surrounding golf course. The facility’s low-profile design, kept under 10 metres in height, blends into the natural landscape while preserving existing trees and maintaining visual harmony. Flexible and adaptable multi-use spaces were introduced to cater to both professional athletes and community users, including state-of-the-art strength and conditioning zones, treatment rooms, and a lecture theatre. Sustainable materials, such as board-formed concrete and timber accents, were selected for durability and aesthetic appeal, while the clean roof profile reflects a modern, pavilion-style approach.
