City Collective was engaged to deliver the Aldinga Master Plan, a visionary redevelopment designed to create a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive community in South Australia. The plan integrates residential, commercial, and public spaces while leveraging the natural beauty of the Aldinga region. With a focus on affordability and accessibility, the project aligns with the future expansion of the rail corridor and aims to foster a connected, thriving urban environment.
Key Project Challenges
The project faced several challenges, including the integration of a future rail station at the heart of the site while ensuring seamless connectivity to surrounding green spaces and existing community infrastructure. Additional complexities included the management of stormwater through a natural “Chain of Ponds” strategy, the creation of safe interfaces with schools and parks, and addressing the site’s topographical constraints. Balancing these challenges with the need to deliver a diverse housing mix added to the intricacy of the planning process.
Key Project Innovations
City Collective’s innovative approach introduced several key design features, including a pedestrian-focused street grid that connects neighborhoods to the rail station and surrounding open spaces. Housing diversity was prioritized, offering a range of typologies to accommodate multi-generational households and promote affordability. Sustainable initiatives such as biofiltration systems, a 20% tree canopy goal, and acoustic buffers along Main South Road ensured environmental sensitivity while enhancing livability. These innovations have positioned the Aldinga Master Plan as a model for inclusive, future-ready urban development.
