City Collective has been working with the Adelaide Football Club since 2016, aiding them in developing a community and elite sporting precinct and establishing a partnership with Council.
Key Project Challenges
The new Sport & Community Centre at Bowden sought to strengthen the Club’s connection with the greater Bowden Precinct and deliver outcomes that benefit the entire community. City Collective lead urban design and architectural outputs for this project and collaborated with the Club and Council regarding stakeholder and community engagement.
Key Project Innovations
The Gasworks Plaza, framed by the heritage-listed Chief Street bluestone wall, is ready for a new use. Picking up on the remaining structure of its former use, these tenancies will provide food & beverage and hospitality opportunities, with boutique bars and restaurants accommodated within the adaptive re-use of the remaining Chief Street wall structure on the edge of the site. These tenancies will celebrate the rich heritage of the site, showcasing the material and architecture of the remnants of former Retort House No. 4 which dates back to the early 1900s. Additionally, the designs will pick up cues from this exposed chimney which was once almost completely covered within the Retort House.
