City Collective partnered with Pelligra to develop the master plan for the 36ers Arena in Adelaide, a facility envisioned to become a central hub for sports, community, and entertainment activities. The project aimed to modernise and expand the arena’s functionality, incorporating state-of-the-art facilities for the Adelaide 36ers basketball team while fostering community engagement. City Collective’s scope included designing high-performance training spaces, community amenities, and multi-functional venues to position the arena as a year-round destination.
Key Project Challenges
The project faced several challenges, including balancing the needs of the professional basketball team with those of the wider community. Site constraints required careful spatial planning to accommodate diverse functions such as training facilities, outdoor courts, and community spaces while optimising traffic flow and parking capacity. Additionally, ensuring the design aligned with the broader urban context and adhered to sustainability principles posed further complexities.
Key Project Innovations
City Collective introduced a multi-layered design strategy that maximised the site’s potential. The plan featured a high-performance training center and team administration offices, alongside outdoor courts and recreational areas for public use. A new entrance plaza was designed to enhance visitor experience and connectivity. The integration of beach volleyball courts, playgrounds, and community spaces broadened the arena’s appeal beyond sports. The project also included expanded parking facilities and sustainable design elements to support long-term operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.
